Im looking at installing a aluminum radiator in my 89 formula. The motor is mostly stock with some add ons (cold air induction kit, SLP air foil, ported runners and plenum ect). I want to find a direct fit one that im not going to have to modify anything in order to get it to fit, such as the radiator shroud becuase i have the dual fan assembly. I looked at summit and they do sell one however i noticed that some of the things dont look 100% correct like my orginal one such as the petcock(drain plug), mines on the passenger side and the summit one is on the driver. Anyone have any info on this?...or have a aluminum one that they've installed with no problems? I already looked into that northern company, there radiator is the same thing...just doesnt look 100% right.

I installed a BeCool 2 row (2 very wide tubes) rad in my 82Z. I'm currently using dual fans. Only things I had to do were; move the lower support rubber grommets over abt an inch or so and install a upper shroud extender plate (which was included with the rad).
Everything else lined up.

I've had the car since 84 and it has always run hot (+220*). Tried a 3 core copper aftermarket rad and a couple of cheap 2 core allum rads. Tried heavy duty belt driven clutch fans, direct drive flex fans, elec booster fans, upgraded water pumps, modified air dams, etc. Nothing seemed to help.

The BeCool rad made a huge difference. I've had it over a year driving in Texas heat, stuck in traffic, a/c running; I haven't went over 200 degs yet.

Got mine on ebay for $300. Best $300 I ever spent!!

only thing with the BeCool radiator's is I've read alot of people having many problems with them. It almost seems as though BeCool is a hit or miss. I dont have any experience, just relaying what I read.

Wow. They're a high $ radiator, some say one of the best out there - you get what you pay for. To here they have problems is not good. What kind of problems are people having? Are they under warranty? I would hope so, for that kind of cash I'dd expect reliable service for years.

I don't think I have any pics - it 'just' fits width wise in my car and sits on a little bit of an angle vertically.

I got a griffin from summit. Its a direct replacememnt but is not cheap. a search under Firebird will not show it. However, it comes up under Camero.

The part # is: GRI-6-282AE-BAX

I spoke with Griffin and they said its for both cars. Mines sitting in the box waiting for the install

I think he is looking for a direct replacement. Does this one have the built in tranny cooler, heater hose fitting, and over flow tank fitting.

There is no image at summit. The one i got is a direct replacement. However it is pricey

I'dd still like to know about the problems people are having with the Be Cool rads.
And I know there is a small cost variance, but which considered is the best rad out there, there are a few,
Be Cool
Griffin
Howe
Rodney Red
Mark or Mike Davis - something like that I think
That's just naming a few. Who's top dog??????????

If I could have paid $500 for a radiator, I'd be happy, haha

Have you looked into Northern?

While I haven't personally used them, Northern seems to get several good nods.

I would like to know about the one from summit as well. They just started to advertise them in the new catolgue. It does say direct fit and it less then 250.00.

500.00 to 600.00 for a becool is crazy. And from what ive read its not a direct fit either.

Has anyone tried the one from summit?

I put a tall/wide truck radiator in mines. I had to drill hole at the top were the brackets go. It kind of leans back but works fine...Have anyone did this?
