a/c system

my a/c compressor has been out for a while now. really, i just want to take the thing off, as well as all associated ancillary hoses. i have 2 questions:

1) if i remove the compressor and hoses, will i still be able to use my heater? at the moment, the extent that my heater works is that it only comes out the vents on top of the dash.

2) are there any components of the a/c system i do not want to remove, that are vital to overall vehicle operation?

thanks
paul

1) yes, although you may want to buy the non- a/c heater box.
2) no, although you need an a/c delete pulley on the belt system.

The system defaults to defroster, so you may either have a leak in the vacuum going to the hvac controls, or bad control electronics/valves.

cool, thanks. i bought a pulley for non-a/c and have been using it for years. it works fine, although it almost almost almost rubs itself on top of the crank pulley. of yet, it hasn't rubbed nor are there any scuff marks on it. i'll check into the non-a/c heater box. thanks again.
