Did a search...Fan relay bypass problems

Ok from what i researched on this board, i know that if i splice a wire into the fan relay and then to ground the fan should turn on.

the stickies on the top of this forum i read twice, and the diagrams i looked at..however alot of the wire colors mentioned in those posts/diagrams, i do not have. mine are different.

I have a 89 L98 Irocz with dual fans. i also have AC, but never use it. they work fine like factory specifies. however the car runs very hot for my taste. 220 in the summer is about low average.

this wire that i am suppose to splice from everything i seen on this board is supposively green with a white strip. I found this wire as only ONE of the 3 relays on the firewall has this wire. so i suppose that is the Fan relay. this was the relay that is closest to the Brake booster... farthest from the drivers side fender. Picture shows it. the other two should be MAF burnoff and Fuel pump....but i'm not sure which is which.

Picture shows the relays on the driver side wall and the wire i spliced.(circled in red is the wire and those wires go to the relay directly behind the circled area)

however, when i put it to ground, it did NOT turn on any of the fans. the wire sparked as it touched ground so i know i made a connection to ground. the one fan does turn on when i jump the ALDL or w/e diagnostic port terminals, A and B i believe.

so.. i'm not sure what else to try now. any help would be appreciated. i have a 170 degree thermostat coming soon, and i want this manual fan control switch to be wired up with it. thanks

the fan relay is located near the battery, at least on my 87 it is, i spliced into the wire there

i have heard that as well and dont know what is what.. i have manuals and didnt see much of anything in them. i do think the secondary fan has a relay of its own on the passenger side somewhere, but i want the primary fan on. if i can get both then i'll take both

ok i found the relay for the fans... its not on the firewall but indeed is located on the side of the radiator next to the battery.

i tried that wire and the fan turned on. the diagrams located here

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...ad-fandiag.jpg

are correct but the main relay for fan 1 is not on the drivers side firewall like alot of posts i found said.

thanks for the help
