does it matter which fitting is the inlet on a heater core?

I am deleting my heater control valve and will now go with a cleaner heater hose routing but I need to know if it matters which fitting on the heater core gets plumbed into the intake and radiator? My plan is to run a hose from the intake to the core and then from the core to the radiator. Basically, does it matter which direction the coolant flows through the core?

Not really, but one hose is 3/4" and the other is 5/8".
