cooling fans dosen't work any help?

i have a 88 trans am gta with dual cooling fans,i noticed last week when iwas driving in town, and the temperature start to raise so i stop and check the water level and i was ok,then i notice that the fans weren't working, does anybody knows what could be the problem?,by the way the motor fans are ok so i think could be the ecm or the relay thanx.

Check your fuses and relays and wiring to make sure nothing is wrong in that department.

You could do an easy fix and rig up a manual switch to the interior like I did. I just flip them on whenever I start the car and my car stays aruond 180 in the summer (i leave them off in cold weather).

Ha, I know the feeling. If my mom ever has to borrow my car I have to stress to her "TURN THE FANS ON WHEN YOU START THE CAR AND REMEMBER TO TURN THEM OFF"...needless to say, my battery has been killed a few times..but hey, better than the car overheating.

i had a similar problem in my 92, no fuses, no shorts, the switch was replaced etc, it was something in the ECU and had to buy a new computer

BTW: i love the irony of your sig, when my L03 was stock my split port v6 stang would walk it

Well there are 2 sensors one under the front spark plug on the left (standing under the hood) on the other side between the back 2 cly. I have replaced both, relay, checked wiring.Come to find it out the box the relay plugs into was melted and two wires shorted out.

I just cut and the the green wire at the Relays and the fans turn on with the ignition switch. I don't have to remember anything that way. I live in So. Cal so real cold weather is not a problem.

the relay for the main fan, the driver side one, is in the corner by the firewall on the driver side. there are three of them there, one for the fan, one for the fuel pump, and i believe the 3rd is for the pass side fan. the switch to turn the pass side fan on is somewhere on the pass side of the block near the head, but not entirely sure where
hope this helps

btw, if you take the relay off and get a jumper, you can jump the relay and make the car think the fan is turned on, even if the car is off, this i have done. this will also allow you to test the wiring in the car to make sure everything is working, including the fan motor
