Do I have a bad Coolant sending unit?

The otherday I noticed my coolant temp needle was going up and down pretty quick with the tap of the gas. It was showing the real temp then back to 0 then back to 180. A day later no problems, always showed the temp. Now The temp needle does the average sweep when you turn the key to start but then goes back and stays. I figured myy temp sensor went bad. The car runs fine still. Now, which one do I replace? The one under the drivers ex manifold? Or is it the one underneath the throttlebody?

All help appreciated
Travis

The sender for the guage is the one in the driver side head, the one in the intake is the coolant sensor for the ECM. You might need to trace the wire from the sender in the head back toward the firewall connector between the brake booster and fender. Make sure it isn't loose or intermittantly gounding on something.

When mine did this is was because the gauge itself was loose in the cluster. When I pulled the cover off I noticed that one of the three pins had come loose from it's clip and there was one retaining screw missing. I reseated the gauge and replaced the missing screw and everything was OK again.

Well Ironically I am a Manager @ Autozone and thats where I picked both of mine up, Its a PN# TU66 for the Temp Switch, and a PN# SU109 for the coolant temp sensor.

We carry BOTH Sensors, sounds like you were dealing with a redshirt counter person that didnt want to look it up for you, Ask a Grey Shirt and they will be gladly to help you

Not to hi-jack the thread, but what would cause the temp gauge to read at only around 150 degrees? There's plenty of coolant in both the radiator and overflow. My car has been doing this since last fall. Any ideas?
