1987 GTA Water Pump
Hi Guys, can anyone tell what the correct water pump is for a 350 TPI GTA? I want to install a polished one like an Edelbrock but they don't really specify exactly what P/N will fit. I'm not sure if it's a short style or a long style and what the distance is from the shaft to the block? I just don't want to order the wrong part right off the bat and then have to deal with the delays. This car has an AT an air/con of course.

It should be a long neck type.If you have V-belts its standard rotation. If you have a serpentine belt only youll need a reverse rotation water pump.

Thanks, however the 87 is a partial V-Belt and partial serpentine so I'm still in a quandry on this one. Like I say I hate to order the wrong part and make a marathon out of this.

Yeah i know, but its a small serp. Not the longer single serp belt.Your set-up still uses the standard rotation, because the serp belt is still configured same as the V-belt it replaced. This doesnt change the pumps rotation. What makes the serpentine pump rotate opposite the V-belt set-up is the way the belt wraps around the pulley(s).On the V-belts it wraps around the passenger side.On the serp set-up the belt contacts the driver side of the pulley.Since the engine is rotating the same way.The pumps direction is changed, because of the opposite sides of the pulley the belt(s) is/are contacting

Appreciate the information! For others who may have the same problem, the answer from Edelbrock is provided below:If your motor uses the serpentine belt to drive ALL the accessory like a/c, alt, p/s, etc use water pump PN # 8881, if your car has a serpentine & V-belts use water pump PN # 8811.
