Air Dam for my 91 RS 383 Stroked
Air Dam for my 91 RS 383 Stroked
I am running a little hot at speed. I have learned from reading the threads here that the air dam is an important part of the cooling mechanism. Mine is missing from the previous owner. Any ideas where I can buy one. I tried the Paddock, but I wasn't sure if the spoiler they listed was correct. New or used, it doesnt matter, I just need one. Also I am running a off the shelf PepBoys 160 thermostate. Do you think that the EMP-301, 180 wouold be worth adding? I run 200 to 210, on 70 degree days. But when I drive her a bit hard, she creaps up to 230. I then back off and drop her into overdrive and she cools down. Because she runs hot at 2000+ RPM while driving I suspect the air dam will help. She can idle all day in gear and hold at 200.
I also want to say that site is awesome! I have learned so much! My RS looks and runs fantastic from all the things I have learned here. Way to much to list, but I have been restoring, improving, tuning and saving a ton of money for 2 months and my car sweet.

SN17, you REALLY should not run without that air damn ( I know you already realize this). You can find the air dams pretty cheap on &bay or look in the classifides on this board. I can't remember how much I bought one from the dealer but it's getting to the point of 100% of our parts are now out of stock

Thanks guuys,
I found an air dam at my local dealer and picked it up today for 29 bucks. So any thoughts on the best thermostate for the job?

Re: Air Dam for my 91 RS 383 Stroked
I have a 91 RS with a built 350, and I always fight some overheating issues here in Phoenix in the summer. I have used a few different styles of thermostats, and I have never really noticed a difference from one to the next. The only thing I would warn against are the ones with bypass holes in them. When I use those, I always ended up changing it out in the cooler months because the car would not heat up enough.

im having issues to i am getting an edlebrock victor series water pump.. its a high flow pump.. i had a high flow pump that was put on when the motor was built and it ran right at 195 (thermostat is 195).. it crapped out nd have stock now at 220.. so a new highg flow should help
Re: Air Dam for my 91 RS 383 Stroked
Well, I installed the new air dam and it made a huge difference. The engine runs 1990 to 200 at speed. All m y problems with cooling are now solved.
Thanks
Dave
