i keep melting fuses!

I have the L98 5.7 block in my GTA, dont know if that makes a difference in the fans, but i think it does, so there

anyway, i was told by my shop teacher when i was building the car (last school year) to but an in line fuse on the way to the cooling fans. the previous owner had some wierd hooba jube job with a make shift switch inside the car to turn the fans on and off on thier own. i didnt want that, so we re-wired it the way it was supposed to be then they would turn on when the computer told them to, and they have every since.

anyway back to the fuse melting, we but a 30amp fuse to it, and it worked for some time, then one night, when my hood decided to open when i was goin 70 down the hwy, that fuse decided to catch fire, and it literally melted itself to the battery.

i got a new one, and its been fine until now, it melted again, i dont remember any fire, but there might have been without me knowing it, cause the only reason i saw the first fire is becausae my hood was open...

so now im kinda worried that it may be something else, i replaced it today with a 40amp fuse (and new in-line fuse holder or course), but what if that one melts itself too?? are the fans simply drawing to much current that causes the fuse to ignite?? are my fans defective in any way?

oh yea, and i have a cold thermostat (160), and a cold fan switch (166-176) both from hypertech, and the powerchip that goes with them, just an fyi in case it matters

keep in mind that the 30amp fuses lasted several months before they failed. it wasnt like the next day or anything, it takes time...

any suggestions?

Re: i keep melting fuses!

Well i am pretty good with electronics i am thinking that there is just too much amperage to try to run through that fuse!My little bro's fuse block melted for his sound system cause there was too much amreage and it got hot!Real hot! That was even a 100 amp fuse!I do realize this is no sound system but i don't think your fans should need a fuse any how!You want straight 12v to ur fans no restrictions and that fuse is a restriction!the computer controls the fans through a relay so there should be no worries ab fusing it to protect the computer!

Your fuse caught on fire because resistance to voltage creates heat and your fuse is a resistance! You can see what others think but that is just my opinion!Hope i Helped!

Oh sorry this all hinges on the fact that the fuse is between the battery and the fans or the battery and the relay!
