Constant hot air...

Hot air from under the dash constantly blows out underneath the dash, from behind the console. Would this have something to do with the "Blend door" not working properly by opening and closing? I have an entire new A/C system, but it's never blown cold air. It's even charged up. It's hotter than a mother outside and I'm frying. Any help?

Re: Constant hot air...

Well, I have a 1984 Camaro and as you know coolent is flowing through the heater core all the time so I installed a heater control valve on the heater core inlet hose. This cooled the engine some because the hot water that comes from the heater core returns to the water pump and on into the engine bypassing the rad. In your case you might pinch off the heater core inlet hose and see if the hot air goes away. If it does then you are on the right track. Air enters the system from the outside or from the inside of the car and flows through the evap. first then through the heater core. The blend door is suppose to close off the airflow to the heater core when in the A/C mode and is cable operated.

I too have a shutoff valve installed in the inlet hose and it's shut so as to not allow coolant to pass into the heater core. Still, hot air blows. It's not blowing out of the vents mind you. It's like it's just coming in from the holes in the firewall. But again as I state in my first post, it's like it's coming diagonally out from behind the console, under the dash.

Also forgot to mention, during a rainstorm or right after when it's really muggy and foggy feeling, you can see the defroster blowing on the windshield and it makes it nearly impossible to see out of unless I constantly wipe the inside with my hand or a towel. Very annoying.
