WHATS THE DEAL WITH THE COOLING FAN

I have an 86 305 tpi, and living in the great state of Cali.. the summers can get a lil warm.. Normally the car is right in its usual 165 to 215 range (depending on my driving habits that day), but I noticed my coolin fan NEVER comes on. The only time I can get that sucka to activate, is when I plug in the Code Scanner.. All electrical appears to be in good shape, I replaced the fan relay, jus curious about possibly the motor itself for the fan... But that works when the code scanner is hooked up...... HELP ME PLEASE

check the cooling fan sensor in the passenger sdie head between #6 and#8 spark plugs either the end melted off or the sensor may be bad

If your fan switch has 1 wire, you can ground it and the fan should run. Check your connections and for burnt wire. If your sensor is bad, this may be the time to get one that turns on sooner so your car will run a little cooler.

Re: WHATS THE DEAL WITH THE COOLING FAN

well... come to find out... The moron who previously owned this sexy hunk of metal neglected to put antiseize on the bolt for the T-stat housing and well... I BROKE IT... The bolt has officially welded itself to the intake and I drilled to far down and punctured the bottom of the intake... So we are off to go get another base... So while im at it Im going to replace all the vacuum lines and sensors on the intake... Get back to ya soon........

86copchaser76, save that intake, it should be repairable for not too much $$$.

Re: WHATS THE DEAL WITH THE COOLING FAN

No idea really, it`s been 40 years since I had a problem like that but I would guess $25-$50 at most and probably at a machine shop if you can`t do it yourself. If the base is aluminum, I`m pretty sure aluminum can be welded. Maybe float the question for Dyno Don or Kevin91 on this site, they would know a lot more than I would.

Re: WHATS THE DEAL WITH THE COOLING FAN

That is a quick and easy fix with a tig welder. Save the intake. Should not cost more then $20 to $40.00 or a 12 pack of beer. Just make sure who ever you have weld it up knows how to weld good.
