I found this forum last week after purchasing my 1988 GTA Trans Am WS6 5.7. Because of the advice here, one of the first things I checked was under the front end for a broken airdam....( running warm) I did find that one part in this area under the front end was indeed broken. ( part A in photos )



So, I went to my local Pontiac parts dept. I asked the guy that helped me to please have a look for himself, because if anything else is missing I want to order all of the parts I need and repair it all at once. He said all I needed was part A.


I knew that part A was broken, and I need it.. but it seems to me like MORE is missing under there than just this one piece...


I asked about another part on his diagram that seemed to be missing under my car and his response was a quick " your car dosent have this, and if this part is not all you need then you can come back and order more later ":... SO, since he seemed to be rushing me off I paid for part A and waited for it to come in two days later.
In the meantime, I found THIS on ebay...

I called the dealer selling these parts and they were MUCH more helpfull. According to our conversation, the year and options match up and THESE PARTS are supposed to be on my car..... ?

My question for you guys is, Are these for sure the rest of the parts I need ? if not, WHAT ELSE DO I NEED ? It looks like that box of parts comes with a diagram / installation instructions. Does anyone HERE have this diagram to share or photos of a properly installed air dam ? ? I really want to get ALL of the needed parts so I can repair this area PROPERLY. Thanks in advance for any help.

 

Both are 'right'. The part you got from the dealer may well have been what originally came on your car. Later models (don't know when) got the three piece air dam you found on e-bay. You'll be happier with it.

Shop around for the three piece dam before purchasing. I've seen a wide disparity in prices. Got mine from Hawks a few years ago for around $45 shipped, think they're more than double that now.

 

those 3 pc ones fit great, and they are still found on ebay cheap, i think i paid like 38 bux for mine new about a year ago

 

thanks for the response. SO, do I need this 3 piece dam in ADDITION to the "part A" I have already purchased from the local dealer ? or is the 3 piece kit a replacement for the " part A " all together ?
This just seems like a big gap to me, like more than one piece is missing. Am I wrong ? Install "part A" and be done ?

Not in addition. They are different style airdams, either use one or the other. The three piece looks better (IMO) and hangs a little lower for potentially better air flow (and perhaps more scrapes). Your choice.
