Stewart Stage 2 Water Pump

I just received this water pump from Jegs (great service, btw), and noticed that the shaft turns smoothly, but seems to have more drag than I would have expected. So, I did a search, and found similar comments from other users of the same pump, along with fitment problems such as bolt-hole alignment and bracket interference. I haven't installed the pump yet. Does anyone have some recent experience with this pump's installation and function? Thanks in advance
Bill

Re: Stewart Stage 2 Water Pump

I put this pump on my 10.5 CR 383, love it. I believe Stewart claims (off their website) that it only chews up 4 hp. So it seems to be a very effecient pump. Bolt holes lined up perfectly. However I did have to use a waterpump pulley shim (1/16" IIRC), not a huge deal, they're cheap.

OK, thanks for the reply. Did you buy the shim (if so where), or fab it yourself? Anyone else?

I bought the shim, Mr gasket sells them in a pack of 3. I forget the sizes, but I used the middle one, 1/16". It was like $3-5. I got mine through summit. I'm sure jegs has it, and probably autozone or the like. You could easily make one, but for $4, I'll save myself some effort.

I also have that pump. 357 CI 10.5 CR and with the Summit 31x19 Radiator, it works awesome. I'm really impressed by the pump and it is well made. Good piece.

OK, sounds like it should be a good upgrade from stock. I'm hoping it will help the car run a little cooler on hot days.
