is my car running to hot?
is my car running to hot?
ok i have a 91 rs, and it runs about 215 220 depending on the day. that seems alittle hot, ive prelaced teh radiator with a brand new one, the thermostate is a 190 the fan switch was replaced just stock tho. any ideas it would make me feel alot more comfortable driving htis car if it was at like 190 200. i would be ok with that. any suggestions places, prices on what would do this easily im about to be putting set of headers on soo i could really use a cooler engine bay.
Re: is my car running to hot?
there is a reason 220 is in the middle of the gauge, from what ive heard thirdgens run hot. just be happy yours doesnt hit 260, had that happen when cruising with some guys on a hot day. Stupid thermostat sticking

if you want it to run cooler you can replace the fan switch with one that kicks on at a lower temp, stock the fan switch kicks on around 215-220 range, where you car is running is perfectly normal.

Resop, for a 3rd gen your temps are great. If you want the temps down to a consistent 200 max, you can replace the fan switch with one that comes on at 195-200 and off at 185. Jet part # Jet60600 at Summit or Jegs. Also, you will need a high flow 180 degree thermostat that has three 3/16`s bypass holes, part # EMP-301,also at Summit or Jegs and if you want consistent low temps go with a dual fan shroud. I used an LT1 on my Iroc, Spal has 11" dual fans with shroud for just over $200 at jaycorptech.com on the web. These 3 changes will do the job. It`s the best money I have spent on my `88 Iroc, 383 TPI. No matter how hot it gets outside, my temps are never over 200. It runs between 185-200 all day long.
