Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
I am lowering my 89 IROC with the eibach sportline kit (2" front, 1.5" back), and I was wondering, is there another way to force air up into the radiator without that goofy looking airdam? Because that dang thing drags on EVERYTHING as it is now, just wait 'til the car is dropped.
Maybe a less conspicuous air spoiler under there, or maybe fab up a ram air system in the foglight openings, any suggestions?
Just thinking of improvements here, as if there aren't enough out there for 3rd gen camaros!

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
If it's scraping along the ground as you drive you car is way too low. Generally even when lowered the airdam won't scrap against the road unless you go over speed bumps, and even then it isn't all that bad.
I say leave it on there. It's there for a purpose.

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
you can cut the factory plastic out behind the fog lights and below the air filters and make it run air to the radiator that way. along with a low temp thermostat, and fan control switches, you'll be fine as far as overheating will go.
cut the boxes out from under the air filters while your at it to open up that whole front end to air. You'll gain power and cooling ability.
also you could fab up dryer ducting or something made out of sheetmetal to channel air into the engine bay around the radiator as well. it will not hang as low as the airdam so clearance is improved.

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
would that work with a tbi? As far as I know, all I would have to do is just cut away the plastic behind the fog lights. I guess I could still use this setup, just skip the step about cutting out the plastic below the air filters. I mean I was just wondering about that air dam. It just drags over speed bumps and driveway curbs (ditches, if you will). I just thought that if it drags on that, it will probably drag on more things than just speed bumps and curbing when lowered. I'll see what I can come up with. thanks for the input.

oh i thought you had TPI. either way it should still work... you can clear a path behind the fog lights to the radiator
Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
How fast do you go over them? I have only dragged mine once. Didn't know that pothole was there. I have gone down some steep drives I didn't think my Camaro would make even creeping. Of course If it steep I do creep.
Try slowing down some.

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
if his is tbi there is a good chance he has 15 inch wheels which would make his clearance less than yours. I have an RS and my air dam scrapes on EVERYTHING, ive been trying to fab up a way to make it smaller out of aluminum with a more extreme angle, but so far to no avail, as i have lost two peices of aluminum lol. but i do have my fan hooked up to a switch, which pretty much if i wanted to run the fan all the time i wouldnt even need the air dam.

Kinda off subject here but Irocs did not come with TBI in 89 im not even sure they ever did... did you swap that motor in? If the motor is original to the car it is probly an RS

if you have 15's what size tire are you running. i thought the 15's just had a taller sidewall than the standard 16inch wheels, so basically the overall diameter of the tire was the same.

Back to the tires real quick, to answer Orr89's question, they are 215/65..15.

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
and the overall diamator of the tires 15" or 16" was pretty close to the same
15" came with 215/65/15
16" came with 235/55/16
so the 16' wheels had less sidewall hight

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
i saw someone modified the turn signal lene area up front to take in air, but i belive they look the lenses out. That's ilegal and dangerous. And my 91 w/ 16" rims scrapes the air dam all the time. I want to chuck it but summer worries me. Then again i have a fog light grille with no fog lights. pretty sure that would be enough flow.
well also a dual fan setup would be a big help. lets face it highway is fine but stop and go is the killer. also watch out for the cooler thermostat, it can cause computer confusion if the thermostat is too cool (aka 160).

yea, just wanted to clear that up with you, not tring to make you look dumb or anything, do take any offence to my post please
my air damn drags alot, and i am real carefull about pulling in and out of places, i dont see how you can lower a car and manage it, i mean mine will hit on some of our HUGE dips in the roads here

Re: Any suggestions to undercar airdam?
I've got a 180 thermo, but as soon as I stop, the temp immediately starts to climb because of the no air flow to the radiator. I am thinking about custom air dam, not sure if it will work, but I'm gonna do some research on it and find out. If it works, I think it might become a "must-have" quick fix, you know?
If nothing else, what about doing what the 69 camaro did, it had the air dam at an angle, with the bottom of the dam facing frontward. That might buy you a little more clearance.
