Amp Cooling

I have a 1800 and a 1200 amp and the 1200 runs the subs and the 1800 runs the interior. The problem I am having is that the 1800 amp is getting to hot and none of the speakers are blown and im not putting to much load on the amp. Well it was getting so hot the sound was cutting out so I removed the end caps and pulled the rear deck cover to let more air back there. My amps are out in the open and they have never overheated like this before but I am going to run a cooling fan through the heatsinks. But anything else that could be suggested to keep the heat sinks cooler?

Re: Amp Cooling

what i did was i made a shroud out of sheet metal, cut a hole in the middle, mounted a 12v computer cooling fan from radio shack on it, and wired it to the amp's "remote" terminal which turns the amp on and off with the deck. the result- a cooling fan that turns on and off with the amp. it hasn't overheated since- even in 95* summer weather.

i'll try to get some pics up in a little while...i'll post a link.

the brace on the top is the only point where it's bolted down- otherwise it just sits over the amp. the fan was $10 or $15 from radio shack and the sheet metal cost maybe $10 from home depot.
