Shroud Question

I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of what shroud/shrouds are supposed to be in place for the radiator. I'm pretty sure Im missing mine because there seems to be a lot of openings around the radiator where air would escape and my car slowly rises in temp while driving over 35 mph until I have to shut it off because it gets too hot. Thanks

Re: Shroud Question

It runs decently cool at idle or slow crusing but at 40 and above it slowly overheats.

Re: Shroud Question

Anyone? I looked at that popular threads at the top about camaro air dams but it didnt have firebird stuff. And I need pics of the underbody dam and any shrouds around the radiator in the engine bay.

Re: Shroud Question

If it's a Firebird make sure you have the air dam on the bottom of the front bumper.

Re: Shroud Question

Don't know what year you have, but my original 83 H.O. never came with a shroud for the single electric fan. Just the spoiler under the radiator. I believe the 84's came with a plastic filler between the nose and the top of the radiator support, not sure what else. Somewhere around the mid to late 80's, there is ducting to direct air from the nose openings directly to the radiator.

Re: Shroud Question

I am not sure how they are supposed to be either, I do know they need the air dam at the bottom.
My 89 RS Camaro has a "shroud" from the front end to the front of the rad.
But it pulls air straight in, unlike your Firebird.

Re: Shroud Question

Well I have an 87 formula, and I have a little piece of plastic under the car but it doesnt seem like it would direct air good enough. I can drive at like 30 mph but as soon as I drive like 40 and up the car gets really hot(upwards of 240). Whould a dealer still have shrouds that I could see/buy? I have a serious problem here.

I do still have to get the total timing set. We set the initial timing at idle but havent adjusted the vacuum advance. I guess that could be one reason for it running hot (timing advance is probably way off). The radiator seems like its working when we check it with a temp gun. The water pump is brand new and we are spinning it the correct way so that shouldnt be the problem. Also I have a 180 degree t-stat.

Im assuming at this point that not enough air is getting pushed through the radiator. Now I did put a 350 in the car that has right around 400 hp. Could I be in need of dual fans or fans on each side of the radiator with that motor? The original motor was a LG4 305 with like 160 hp so maybe the cooling system cant keep up? Could I also need a higher performance radiator? (The current one is like 2 years old but it was a cheapie). By the way thanks for the help so far guys.
