Is my engine to hot?
Hi...
I am just wondering if my engine is to hot when I am driving or if something about the cooling system is not working.
I have a 87 Camaro Sport Coupe that had a operating temperature of around 170 before I was customizing the front to an Z28 front.
Now my temperature gauge is reaching around 200 and sometimes around 210 when I am driving, even on the highway at 60MPH the temperature is still there.
Is this to hot?..I mean, my electric fan is stepping in all the time. Highway driving, city driving, climbing hills etc etc.
I may be difficult to understand but I am asking that, will my engine overheat on highway driving if my electric fan wouldn't have worked?...
I guess electric fans is not going to operate when driving on highways at speeds like 50 and 60mph??
My engine is by the way a 305 carbed engine with everything stock..

Re: Is my engine to hot?
Well Stoc temp for my 86 Iroc was 230* when the fan came on. Stock temp it sits at is 220* fully warmed up. Yours sounds like its running too cool. And 200* Is not too hot. I don't get why your fan is coming on at 170ish, thats not even enough to open a stock thermostat (if that is what you have)
Stock thermostat opens at 195*

Ok..So I guess my car is not running to hot anyway....But the only thing I was worried about is that my fan is stepping in when I reach temperatures about 200 to 210....And then temperature will go down to 200 again...And fan stops...temperature goes up and down between 190 and 210 all the time.
Sounds like my engine is good

If you changed the front make sure you have the air dam under there, that makes a difference on the highway.
