Single to Dual Fan

My car didnt come with the dual fans in it (has an 86 harness in it) and I want to convert it to a dual fan set up. I have the dual fans already installed in the car with the factory wiring harness on them, but they wont plug into my 86 harness. So what do I have to do to make the fans work with my 86 harness?

Re: Single to Dual Fan

If you want them to both come on at the same time, plug your existing connector into one fan, and wire up a relay etc. for the other fan. You can use the same ground that triggers the relay for the existing fan to trigger the second relay for the second fan.

Re: Single to Dual Fan

You need to go into detail of what you have and don't have.

Did your single fan ever work?

What wiring do you have for the dual fans?

Etc.

Re: Single to Dual Fan

I have the dual fans mounted and all ready to go in the car. I also have the factory dual fan wiring harness plugged into the fans. My car came with a single fan but it never had the fan or any of the wiring in it.

Re: Single to Dual Fan

You need to wire a 30amp relay to each fan. Run the ground for the fan motor to a chassis ground, and run the 12V+ (from battery positive) for the motor through the relay. Power the relay with a 12V+ source (key on), and turn the relay on/off (which will turn the fans on/off) using the ground. You can use the factory switch in the pass. side cylinder head, and add a toggle switch so you can do it manually.

I would get an aftermarket fan switch to turn them on earlier, and wire them so they both come on together (run the wire from the fan switch in the head to the (-) side of both relays).
