Thermostat on 1986 Camaro 305 TPI
Thermostat on 1986 Camaro 305 TPI
I made a boo boo and didn't look at how I took out the first thermostat. It's my first time changing in on these cars so I don't really want to mess up and have to go in and redo it. I believe the end with the spring goes down and the end with the pointed top goes up as if coming out.
I'm unsure and don't feel like tearing it down again just to flip it.
Anyone know?

The side with the spring goes down in the intake and the pointed top goes in the thermos housing.

As others have said, you have the correct orientation. Before putting it in, I drill two 1/8" holes in the ring. It allows a bit of coolant flow even when the T-stat is closed. Cheap insurance in case it fails closed and also makes it easier to bleed the air out of the system.
