flex fan question

this isnt really a question for myself cause i would never run a flex fan but anyway lets not get me started. a guy at work has a 86 t/a that had a elec. fan and he had it on a switch and well for some reason wanted to go to a mechanical fan. i gave him the old shroud from my 82 since im running a elec. fan on it now and he bought a 19in flex fan from autozone and now he cant get the hood to shut without it pushing down on the shrough. he claims that he needs my hood now which i know is bs since i looked at both my 82 and 86 and the undersides are the same. anyone got an idea as to why it is hitting? i havent gotten to go look at his setup yet but i think he just installed something wrong. well thanks for the help in advance.

Re: flex fan question

I got 85 T/A with a flex fan, it has 18 inch on it and barely make's it!
I don't know how 19 inch would make it? I opened my hood an saw grove's
in the hood from the fan.

Plus; are you running a clutch? The closer you are to the slope of hood, the more likely in going to hit. a clutch, plus the adpater will make it hit. Also make sure you don't have a long nose water pump.

Go luck.

Re: flex fan question

well he says when he shuts the hood the hood hits the shroud which cause's it to hit the fan and he is not running a clutch

Re: flex fan question

Is it the orginial engine? but try a small fan. to keep the same amount of air flow. try using a fan with bigger blades. If that don't work; go to home depot, get a piece of 1/8 steel, make a new fan shroud... what don't exist, can be created. unless his trying to keep it orginial. Also double check the hood lines; something may be off there.
