Replacement radiator for 89 TTA

I got a replacmenet radiator from Napa for my 1989 TTA but it had an extra hole on the passanger side below the overflow hose nipple.

I know some 3rd Gen's came with a sensor (temp?) in that location .... anyone got a picture of a radiator with the sensor installed, also what would be the partnumber for that sensor? I like to use the sensor to plug the hole properly.

Re: Replacement radiator for 89 TTA

what was the part number on your invoice for the radiator. NAPA sell Proliance radiators so I think the number will be a 43-3951. Can you verify this? Also, double check your radiator box. Sometimes they have a small package inside with a plug for this hole & you might have missed it in the packing. Also, some don't have the hole drilled through where the sensor goes so check that as well....

Re: Replacement radiator for 89 TTA

Part number on the invoice is 951 so I take it that's the same as the on you mentioned.

Yes it came with a rubber plug (see photo attached of my radiator installed and the rubber plug/cap on the radiator marked in red) and a wormclamp that I got on there, my only concern with those plugs is they age and the rubber crack so potential leak.

The hole was drilled through so if you happen to know which sensor (part number) do fit in there I migh pick one up and just put it in there for a more proper seal or have a nice plug made that fits (using the sensor to get the dimensions of it). And the sensor might be useful to monitor the radiator temp as well maybe :-)

Any help much appreciated.

A sensor doesn't go there. That is for the heater core return hose used on later 3rd-gens with a heater core coolant diverter valve(w/ A/C) The aftermarket replacement radiators are made to fit several applications with one part.

Interesting, did not know that and never seen one with the diverter valve on it. Anyone got a goot picture you could post where this is all hooked up ... ?

This picture shows the setup well. You can see where the heater hose attaches onto the radiator tank below the filler cap.

Re: Replacement radiator for 89 TTA

Excellent picture much appreciated. Thanks for helping solve the mystery :-) (always thought it would be for a temp sensor of some sort .... guess I just keep it capped properly).

Thanks again!
