over heating 88 camaro
what is the potential damage to motor when reaching 300 degrees? i wired up a toggle to the fan because the relay wiring was hacked up when i baught the car. i also took out the thermastat. it usually runs around 165 but today it was 6 degrees outside and i let it warm up to 120 before i drove off. i got on the highway and it took less then 3 minutes and my temp guage bottomed out which is 300. i imediatley shut the car off and coasted to and exit then all the water out of the overflow sprayed out. i need to know what i could be looking at for possible damage besides a blown head gasket and warping the the block. it was at 300 for about 2 minutes

I had a street car 350SBC which went well in excess of 300°.
I’ll never know because the gage was pegged.
The temp sender got so hot it became inaccurate so I replaced it, but that’s all I had to replace.
You should change the oil but otherwise don’t worry too much about it.
