Little heat
How does everyones heater work? I live up north and its damn cold in the morning and I have come to notice that my heater just puts out the bare min. It will melt the frost if I leave the car outside overnight, but it does nothing for keepin my body temp where it should be. Is this normal or do I have a problem? Im sure part of it is t-top and door seals, which i have ordered. But when you put your hand up to the vents, it feels warm but not hot. Im not sure it matters but its a 88 roc w/ 350 in it. This isnt really a "cooling" question but has coolant in it. Thanks.

Make sure your coolant temperature is high enuff.
Make sure your blend door has its full range.
Make sure the heater diverter valve is functioning properly.
Make sure your heater core is not restricted.

Re: Little heat
WHat does your temp gauge say? I had a vehicle that the thermostat was stuck open so when I was on the expressway it would just get cooler. WHen I slowed down the temp gauge went up and warmed things up. This is only one possibility but thats what was wrong with mine.

I just got my temp gauge working and havnt driven it since. The brass spade on the temp sender was getting corroded so it was not making good connection. Next time I drive it I will pay attention the the temp gauge and let yaz know. I hope to get it out again this week some time.

Yeah, thermostat is stuck open or an aftermarket one is in there. It runs at around 160 tops on the highway. Thanks for the tips.

Re: Little heat
Ok, second guessing myself now. I changed the thermostat and my dash still reads the same. Let me just clarify the increments on my dash. The first line is 100 then there is a dash (i assumed it was like 150/160ish) then there is 220 then a dash and then 260 in the red.... Mine is running just a touch above the line between the 100 and 220. Maybe I am reading the increments wrong but that seems low. Am I in the good or do I have a problem even with a new stat in. One thing to consider, this is just sitting idling. I have not tried it going down the hwy yet. O yeah, and when my radiator fan kicks on, only one of the two kicks on. Is that how the computer works or is there a problem?

Re: Little heat
What temp Thermostat did you put in? I suggested it could be stuck open if it cooled down (way down) as you speed up. Since its not overheating I thought this was a possibility. Did you try any of Nina's suggestions?

I put a 195 in it. I have a temp laser so im going to shoot it once I get to a point of being able to run it again. In the process of doing weatherstripping right now. I will let you know how I make out.

Re: Little heat
If you hear the blower motor going and its blowing cool air the thermostat is most likely the culprit.
