overdriving the water pump

does over-driving the waterpump cause any issues? Im asking because i swapped in a larger crank pulley to speed up the alternator and PS pump, and now my waterpump is over-driven.

Any problems? would it cause water to pass through the radiator too quickly and not cool down?

just wondering

Re: overdriving the water pump

You may run into problems with pump cavitation - essentially the inlet pressure to the pump will be below the vapor pressure of your coolant and air bubbles (boiling) will occur. Once these bubbles pass into the high pressure region (ie. somewhere along the impeller blades) they will collapse and can erode any material within the collapsing region.

You would need to calculate the NPSH (net positive suction head) available of your cooling system and then compare to that required by the pump (usually given on pump performance curves).

Easy way out would be to figure out the stock coolant pump pulley ratio and then resize your pump pulley to maintain that ratio.

Damn hope you understand all that. I didnt know there was so much technology in a cooling system. Im just jokin around lol! Hes right resize your wp pulley with a bigger one and that will get er done.
