Fluid level sensor

I believe i have located the fluid level sensor on my radiator but nothing is attached to it. My question is as long as i watch my antifreeze level is this sensor hook-up necessary?
Thanks

Your car doesn't have a fluid level sensing system.

Re: Fluid level sensor

Hmmm... well then would you know what it might be? It is on the passenger side. I looks like a small maybe half inch metal prong that sticks out. It looks like it should plug into something but there are no hanging wires that i could find to hook up to it.

Re: Fluid level sensor

GM replacement radiators have that stupid hook up even though they aren't used for the most part.

What model had such futuristic technology you ask ? The digital dash cars that had the DIC (driver information center)

Want a picture of the switch?

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cool...ss-my-fan.html

The radiator in my Firebird came straight from the deanship. It wasn't' an option to get a radiator without the switch though, you could omit the cooler if you had a 5-speed (like mine)

Now you know.... and knowing is half the battle.

To add a little humor.. this was an option for these cars (if you got the digital dash). The DIC also showed doors ajar, hatch and low washer fluid (probably something else useless too that I missed). I'm sure it seemed special at the time.

The exact same thing my base model 86 Daytona and a friends 87 Topaz had stock (many moons back)

Re: Fluid level sensor

Well there you go. So I guess i will just have to deal with a useless switch that makes that does nothing for my car. Thanks for the info.

Re: Fluid level sensor

Yep, unless you have a Digital Dash with the already mentioned Driver Information Center (Trans Am's Only Plz) then that little switch is just there for looks

Re: Fluid level sensor

To add an answer to the original question...

As long as there is coolant (cold) in your recovery tank (or overflow if you like), genrally, the radiator level is fine.

Cool! Problem solved. I've got several from the dealer and I have never seen this before though. Strange.
