Just got my a/c compressor replaced and now it feels like when it is on, it takes way too much power, and when i shift (manual) it jerks really bad, kinda like a bucking motion, and the temp goes straight to the sky, and the electric fan is on, and I'm on the freeway cruising at 80.the compressor is not cycling at all either, which my old one did, often. The car ran great with the old a/c until it went out completely. New unit has 134-a. As soon as I turn off the a/c, the car goes back to being absolutely perfect. I recently replace the radiator with a OEM one, new 180 thermostat, and 185 Degree fan switch. The car also will not go above 190 ever, unless i turn the air on. It is about 100 degress outside today. What could be the problem?

 

What happens when you turn it on with the car sitting still in your driveway?

 

Oddly enough, when it is sitting still with the a/c on, it runs rather normal, occasionally, the idle will go up a little.

 

sometimes if there isnt any a/c lubricant, it could have some issues ive heard. thats all i heard.

 

Does the engine get hot when it's idling?

I sort of suspect that the temp problem is being caused by a condenser that is full of bugs and other junk. The only way to clean it is to pull the radiator and start picking the junk out. Air and/or water won't usually do the trick.

As to it feeling like it's pulling lots of power, a properly running A/C system requires about 25hp to drive.

 

The condensor is clean, the engine runs hot, not the a/c. Actually, the a/c works excellent, it's just causing it too overheat and run like a bag of crap. it will slowly start to overheat as it idles, or around town, or on the freeway at constant speed. As soon as the a/c is shut off, the car drops down to 180-190, and will stay running that cool, no matter how hot, or how much traffic im in, as long as i do not turn the a/c on.

I heard that if the system is overfilled it could cause this rough running condition, anyone ever heard of that before?

 

The condenser being plugged up WILL cause the engine to overheat due to lack of airflow. If you haven't looked through the condenser, not just at it, you should try that. They are great at getting stuff packed in between the tubes that doesn't show up on the surface, and just hosing it out won't do. Ya gotta actually pick the crap out of them.
