What electric fans to use?

Hey people i got an 82' Z28 with a big block in it. I just recently got a new all aluminum radiator. The fans i was using before are now to big because the radiator is much fatter than the stock one. What are some good fans from a car that i could pull from the junkyard? I have a 160 stat in it now, and the motor dyno'ed at 485 Hp. So any good suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: What electric fans to use?

could check 4th gen fans,one i have on hand is 4 7/8"
from the front to the back of the motor,shroud/bracket
is 13 1/4"wide-uses the same motor and blades as '87
up 3rd gen dual fans.
One that is powerfull and quite thin is the fan from an
82-87 front drive GM car with the 4.3L diesel(cutlass
ciera,pontiac 6000,etc.) 16 1/2"diameter blade,3 1/2"
thick(this is what i would use on mine if i used electric
fan,but might be hard to find these days)
The fans on the chrysler"LH"cars are very thin, also
dodge durangos/dakotas with v8 have an auxillary
electric fan that fits between the radiator and the belt
driven fan that might be suitable.

Re: What electric fans to use?

I know this is a little old but I was wondering the same. I dont have clearance issues, but I would like to know the kinds of dual fan set ups that fit easily with little modification that will pull more air than stock dual fan. Or a complete dual fan set up that works good and looks almost stock or better? Thanks.

Atreyu if your still around what did you do also?

Re: What electric fans to use?

Okay this sounds dumb but not finding an exact thread on it with years and a third gen camaro. Any help any one on here done it. I really would perfer two fans that cover entire radiator and not something that only covers 80%.

Re: What electric fans to use?

the ford taurus fan used is the one from 1990-95 models
with a 3.8L engine and the SHO version from around the
same years-it is a pretty powerful fan and has a 2-speed
motor, must be wired correctly or motor will burn out.
I have one in my parts stash and will measure it up and
post the basic dimensions if i can find it and dig out.

I actually ended up buying some brand new fans on ebay, cant really remember from who. but i got 2 14" fans with an electric fan relay for like 80 bucks. and so far they have been totally worth it. On a really hot day i sit around 160, 170. I love em

Re: What electric fans to use?

I bought a 96 Mark VIII fan at local bone yard for $30.00 actually today. The car was not available for the wiring. So I have to figure out how to wire into the stock single fan wiring of car. I guess these fan flow more air on low than the stock fan does, and when on high it flows anywhere from 4,000 to 4,600cfm.

If anyone knows the best way to wire chime in.

Re: What electric fans to use?

I used dual 12" spal pullers on a summit alu rad. Can't fit more fan area on it than this (staggered) setup.
