Cooling problems!!!!

I have a 1988 trans am 305 TPI. The fans Stopped working properly and it overheated and split the radiator. Will it cause computer errors if i put a manual override on the fans. Also whaqt is a recommended pressure of the radiator cap?

Re: Cooling problems!!!!

I beleave the cap is 16psi.Thats what Napa auto parts sold me for my car. So that's what I run on mine. By the way I also run a 200 degree fan switch where the 225 stock switch was and a manually switched axillary pusher fan in front of the radiator with a 180 degree thermostat .Just a few things to keep her under that 225 mark. IMO that's way to hot. Mine stays around 190.

Re: Cooling problems!!!!

No - no computer issues with a manual switch. In fact, you can ignore the factory fan switch and install a seperate fan controller if you like - I did 'cause I never liked the factory switch. Most are fully adjustable, easy to wire, and best of all, no coolant in the face to install - they probe the radiator instead of getting installed in the head or block.

The ECM senses temps from the sensor on the water neck, or from the sensor on the driver side, and the ECM will make adjustments to engine according to the temp sensed.

Re: Cooling problems!!!!

where did you find an aftermarket switch and your fan is pushing, meaning air is flowing towards the front of the car with the fan on the motor side of the radaitor?

Re: Cooling problems!!!!

He's saying that he has the stock puller fan on the motor side with a lower temp switch, AND he has an aftermarket pusher fan on the front side of radiator with a manual switch on it that pushes air towards the motor.
