removed my ac.. now theres a big open hole.
I removed my a/c system.. im having a hard time figuring out what to do now... that part located ron the passenger side fire wall in the engine bay...
When i pulled out the A/C Evaporator Core in the plastic box that vents into the cab there was a plastic top piece that screwed on top of the box but a big slotted hole in front the box allowing the pipes to connect to the hoses and a piece of foam to stop air flow put that foam was held in place by the A/C Evaporator Core that i removed is there a new case i should replace to house the fan in and just put a piece of sheet metal on the fire wall where that hole is no longer needed im talking about a 6"x"6 square hole roughly..
the plus to doing that would be that it would make more room in the bay looking neater and less cluttered.. But i dont know if i can get a box like that or if theres a way to seal the box ???? its a 1984 camaro berlinetta. thatnks guys

I have often wondered about this kind of thing, I thought a heater only assembly off of an older car might work, since the older AC units look a lot like the 3rd gen AC units. I know a man that restores 60's vets for a living I'll see what he says about it.

Re: removed my ac.. now theres a big open hole.
it's pretty much a flat piece of metal that covers the opening....you won't have a fan either though, so no heater.
What you could also do is find a heater/fan box from a car with no factory AC and put that in as well, then you would have a blower fan....

I believe that all 82-92 f bodies should fit that...your model is camaro....the berlinetta is just a trim package.

Re: removed my ac.. now theres a big open hole.
NICE! yes i just bought mine i didn't care what was wrong with it my plan is to gut the car and rebuild it from the ground up dub it out for better traction and put a 383ci stroker in it as well as new suspension, transmition and rear end and a cowl 6" hood and well of course some Mickey Thompsons.. I have only had this car for 2 weeks drove it to my house from an hr+ away for only $750.. im in the middle of taking it apart and deciding what goes and what stays but ill keep it all until its replaced so i dont forget about any parts.. the electrical on this car has been tampered with as if the wiring from factory wasn't bad enough its like a spaghetti factory this berlinetta is going to be a lot of work! My next question to ask is the top dash board that detaches in this car its about 1 inch thick and its the top piece of the dash and on the driver side the corner edge has been damaged i was wondering if any one would know a good place to look for a replacement.. thanks again for you help!

Re: removed my ac.. now theres a big open hole.
The heater pieces are called "AC Delete Box"
ebay is a source for just about anything you need - just search "82 92 camaro" and you'll get more items than you have wallet for.
There's also many sponsors on here as well - click their ads - Thirdgen Ranch, Hawks, Top Down Solutions, A1 Auto, etc.
And don't forget the classifieds here as well!

Yeah - that would be cool! No - sponsors as in TGO site sponsors - they pay for ad space here, and thus are TGO sponsors.
But - if they are watching - sponsoring a few cars along the way won't upset any of us I'm sure! {hint hint}

84 zoom - You should pick one of these discs up from www.fbodycd.com... It has a 100x more information then any other shop manual... It'll help you with anything and everything along the way of your rebuild... Could've saved alot of holes in my wall if I would've known about it sooner, haha...

Yea.. I know
But this being the first time i under go any work on a car, besides car audio. Iv never even changed my own oil before.. lol
So im going to take this year to learn to take out the engine..
I have been doing a lot of studying, i now have a good idea how that engine works and all its parts.
So over the next year i plan to take things apart and as needed, I'll be able to purchase the necessary tools..
When it come to that time, I'll know what im doing and now where ever screw goes.. In hopes that all the new parts won't get damaged as i install most of it myself!
I hope my punctuation is a bit better for all of you ;P
Grammar was never my strong point :P

Re: removed my ac.. now theres a big open hole.
i might be reading it wrong but he's my idea
if im correct there's now a hole in your engine bay now right? so im thinking maybe you could get a airdam and place it right behind the hole so it directs cool air into the engine bay. its just a rough idea im sure there is more you could do i think it would would help a bit with cooling. it might be a stupid idea but something to think about.

Re: removed my ac.. now theres a big open hole.
Oh trust me - we all know. I've had mine for 4 years now, still working on her, still sinking money into her. I'm about 90% done with what I wanted to accomplish - but it's taken me 4 years and $13,000 to get here. It's like everything else, when I have the money I don't have the time, and visa versa. But, if I had a new car for the last 4 years, I'd spent way more than that in insurance premiums and monthly payments, and wouldn't have had any fun.
They say no pain no gain right? Well, I'm in pain now for her. She's back at the paint shop getting touch ups and color matching between the plastic nose and the metal car right now, leaving me with only the motorcycle as transportation - and with the temps at 19 when I go to work in the morning, I'm definitely hurtin' while she's getting dolled up! Brrrr!
