Engine runs cold/No heat
Engine runs cold/No heat
Engine never gets past 130 in summer or winter. I replaced the thermostat, the temp sending units, and had the ECU replaced, but it still stays at 130. The fans still run normal. My heat was working for the past few weeks, but it stopped working. I replaced the thermostat again with a 195 , that fixed the problem and i got heat for a few days then it cut out again. Need some help

Re: Engine runs cold/No heat
this sounds strange, but try turning your temp to cool instead of heat. I did that the other day, and the temp guage went from rock bottom to medium
Re: Engine runs cold/No heat
I actually tried that the other day, no difference. Temp stayed the same no matter how long i drove the car. Not worried about the heat so much, just wanted to know if it was bad for the motor to stay that cold.

Re: Engine runs cold/No heat
disconnect the wire on the fans. run the car and see if it heats up (with a/c off and heater off), if it does get hot like normal than maybe research more into thermostatic fan switch i would think, anybody agree? When done with the test dont forget to reconnect the wire to fan. btw laser thermometer are good investments to double check the temp, , Would by chance youre using Mr Gasket thermostats?? because it sounds like a thermostat to me

Re: Engine runs cold/No heat
My car does the exact same thing. I disconnected the fan and it ran up to temp. like it should. When I turned it off to plug fan back in it sounded like it was about to boil over. Once the fan took over it went back down to 130 degrees. What to do now?

replace your fan switch, http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...&parentId=63-0 7 bucks, its between the 6-8 cylinder. careful will the connector on the switch/sensor, its so brittle mine broke and i had to solder a new connector to the harness. you should be golden after that. Part # SW502 at autozone (for 1988 chevy camaro 5.0L

its on the block, right above the knock sensor. i had to get underneath. you can feel it. imagine the 6th and 8th cylinders spark plugs, now in the middle below about 6 inches. one wire Check this link out http://www.superchevy.com/tech/0502s...ing/index.html it kinda helps.. What brand t-stat are you using?

That's an interesting link Transam. Might take that into consideration as driving in Texas gets a little warm.
