Aluminum water pump No hole on top
Aluminum water pump No hole on top
Hey,
I have a 3rd gen serpentine set-up on my older camaro and I just bought a new aluminum water pump. It does not have the heater hose hole on top.
1. Where does the hose go on the 3rd gen if theres no hole on the pump?
2. Do they sell a 3rd gen aluminum pump with the hole?
Pictures would be great of you got them! Thank you.

Just below the radiator cap. Does the pump not have a plug in the heater hose hole? If so, you can just unscrew the plug, and thread in a heater hose fitting.

'87-earlier water pumps pull in coolant through that hole
so if you could put a fitting on pass. side radiator tank
or add a"t" to the water pump intake hose and connect
the heater hose there,it would work the same as it would
using the fitting on the earlier water pump.

What kinda aluminum pump did you get? I "THINK" that all of Stewart's castings for the CCR got the inlet. I'm not certain, but I think that some trucks 87+ used it, so they cast it in all of them so it will fit more applications, you'd just keep it plugged if you don't use it. You may wanna double check with Stewart though, cause I don't know for sure.

I just recently ordered an aluminum water pump from jegs that had the hole that I had to plug. So yes they do make them.

remember on the sepentine setups, the water pump runs opposite direction than the v-belt setup

Re: Aluminum water pump No hole on top
I recently ordered a stewart pump for an 87 and a 92, BOTH of them have the hole (I plugged it)
87:

92: (this one is reverse rotation, on the outside it's the same..the difference is the impeller, it's inversed)

As for 87 and earlier pulling in coolant through that hose, must be application specific. My 87 L98 was plugged off there, the hose ran to the radiator. Probably has to do with having a KC4 oil cooler.
