need some help..on fan switch and thermostat
im trying to pinpoint a surging issue and my car running like crap...
I found that the end of my fan switch on the passenger head is broken but still connected.....i dont know if that would cause a surging issue at idle and not running right once the car is warmed up...after doing some searching and reading i found that it could be my coolant sensor also.
SO? i cant remember what fan switch i had and thermo......i think it was on at 176 and off at 166 with a 160* thermostat....
also im thinking just a standard coolant sensor? 3/8 npt?
help me out
what do you guys recommend for my 383
thanks

If your computer isnt seeing the engine get warm enough, it wont go into closed loop mode. Most FI systems want about 180-190 degree operating temp. The faster you get to the temp and stay there, the better. Turning the fans on too soon, with an early opening tstat will take longer to get to operating temp. Running too cool can actually be a bad thing.....

I'm experiencing the same issue. My fan switch wire is broken off as well. I replaced the coolant temp sensor on the intake manifold, and it still acts up.
Also, my coolant fans stopped working. Do you have the same issue?
I have a new fan switch wire/connector from tpiparts.net on the way; I'll let you know if it works.

mine is not completely broken off....it can still be connected but not a good connection...know what i mean?
nah,,,,, my cooling fans still work..
yeah let me know what happens when you get you fan switch right and see if that fixes your problem.

Re: need some help..on fan switch and thermostat
If you think that your ECM is not going into closed loop because you suspect the CTS or it's connector is bad, simply jump the two sensor wires together when it runs like crap and see if anything changes. Shorting the CTS sensor leads will confuse the ECM into thinking the motor is full hot.
It is, however, unlikely that this is the cause of your problem. Surging is generally caused by a lean condition. In Open Loop your ECM should be running richer than in Closed Loop. I wouldn't expect your motor to run crappy in Open Loop unless it's also running crappy in Closed Loop. Which kinda fits your "not running right once the car is warmed up".
