Re: stock e fan questions

I have no idea on size, but I read alot where folks yank a mid-90's Ford Taurus fan - they say it moves alot of air really well. As with alot of things in life - as long as it fits well, bigger is always better!

Re: stock e fan questions

the v-6 and v-8 single fans are the same-also the v-6
and non-A/C v-8 4th gen(at least thru '97,haven't
looked at '98 -02),use the same fan and motor with a
different shroud

Re: stock e fan questions

forgot to mention basicly the same fan-same motor and
blades,different shrouds-is used in lots of 1985-mid '90s
midsize FWD GM cars including cadillac,so should be
able to find one easy.when you find one make sure it
turns easy and will coast a couple revolutions when
spun by hand-if it does not the motor may be burnt out
and the armature windings shorted(sometimes the fans
get packed up with snow and burn out)
Also make sure you get the polarity correct as some of
these motors have a diode across the teminals that can
short if connected backwards

Re: stock e fan questions

measured a couple in my parts stash
-3.8 taurus: 16 3/8"including ring,15 1/4"bladed area
-GM 16"dia.,15 1/4"bladed area
Diameter is nearly the same between the two,but the
ford part has 9 blades instead of 5,slightly more
aggresive blade pitch and a bigger motor.
3.8 taurus fan should cool a 4.3 well if it is for general
street use.
BTW the taurus fan is made by one of the supplers to
the"big three"and not by ford itself if you are concerned
about having"blue oval"parts underhood
the 1994 example i have says"made in usa" on the
blade and shroud, while the motor was marked"canada"
so good quality stuff
