Correct Thermostat Temp Question???
Correct Thermostat Temp Question???
I am putting together my rebuilt 92Z and want to know the correct temp for the thermostat. As I remember the original ran at 225 or so degrees and was a problem. Some people say 160 degrees is Ok and alot of people seem to follow that. I have also read that 160 degrees affects the operation of some engine functions and should be raised to 175 degrees. So what is the correct or best temperature??
My engine is a 355 with vortec heads a zz4 cam and close to stock compression.
Anyone got any good solid answers not based on opinion?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Correct Thermostat Temp Question???
195° thermostat was stock.
180° thermostat will do you just fine. I see no need for a 160°. Unless you consider 180° to be too hot. (I don't)
