Canton fabricated coolant tank.
Anyone on here have one? Looks nice in the pics, but wondering how well it fits. It's supposed to be a direct fit in our cars. I would like to see pics if anyone has one.
Thanks!

Re: Canton fabricated coolant tank.
If it's what I'm thinking of (alum), a friend had one in his thirdgen. He didn't like it for some reason and offered it to me. I didn't go for it as, IIRC, there was no provision to check coolant level. I purchased new GM plastic tanks, which look great--at least when they're new.

Yep! Thats the one! I was wondering what it looked like installed. Looks pretty nice! I was thinking it might dress up the engine bay in my mostly stock IROC. I think I would install a couple 90 degree elbows and a piece of clear tubing to keep track of the level... Thanks for posting Guys!

i have the same one, its a nice piece

FWIW, mine didnt come with a vented cap, which caused a pressure issue until i figured it out. I drilled a hole int he center of the fill cap, made a little baffle for the underside and all is well.

Good to know there is a trick to getting it to work.
Twin_Turbo; Where did you get that radiator top mount? I am guessing you had it custom made, as I have the griffen radiator and have been searching for something like that.

But where are you going to mount a universal tank without it looking like crap and having to drill holes? IMO it has a lot going for it that it's a direct replacement.

Re: Canton fabricated coolant tank.
FWIW: On their ebay site, Canton claims it is 2 oz lighter than the stock plastic bottle... It's a great alternative for me as I live in AZ and my Brand new plastic one (Yes, it's an actual GM part.) turned yellow in 3 months and I use red coolant! The extreme heat here kills plastic.
Twin_Turbo, how about that radiator mount? (Figured you missed it in the post above.)

I made it, I have the 2nd "revision" on my red camaro with dimpled holes. It probably won't fit the griffen rad though. I posted a cad file in the custom fab thread so if you want to copy it, download that and take it to a sheetmetal shop

LOL! I know: "WOW! A WHOLE TWO OZ!" Really shedding weight now! My point was that the plastic bottle isnt lighter...

I know that. But I like it. So if I am ever in the market for a new bottle I will go ahead and get this one. I assumed the plastic was lighter.

Re: Canton fabricated coolant tank.
I bought the same one from a member here last year on the classifieds. My old tank must have had a crack somewhere because it would seep out slowly from the tank over a few weeks and I would find it empty even when the car had not ran.
I threw some ARP stainless engine dress bolts I had left over on it. One of my front tabs didn't want to fit flush with the mount. It actually was off by quite a bit. Still 2 ARP bolts with locking compound and a loc washer holding it down is more than enough
Good to know about the vent. Mine also is totally sealed I guess I'll drill a small hole in the top of the cap.

Electrolysis, iron block, aluminum heads, aluminum radiator & tank and a steel (galvanized) cap. Buy a rad cap w/ sacrificial anode.

AH! Use the newer GM red (Orange?) coolant. That what I use. No rot after that. (Think it goes by the name "Dex-cool".) Not cheap, but after going through the aluminum water pump 3 times in my Jeep with aluminum radiator, I switched to it and like magic, No more corrosion.

How did you go about making the baffle for your cap and could you post up detail pics of the piece?

My cap also rotted.. Plan to paint the cap black and the tank itself silver.. Trying to go for a black..red..silver..brushed color scheme.. This is a nice tank though.. Just needed that 1 hole re-drilled.. I just used the 2 available and all is fine..

If you use the "orange/red" coolant that the newer GM cars are using, you wont have much corrosion. I think it's called "Dex-cool" I started using it in all my cars and there is no more rot. That stuff is designed for aluminum.

Yes, organic coolant will go a long way in reducing/eliminating corrosion. if you ever see an LT1 with the stock coolant you'd notice how clean the internal passages are.

Dexcool..yuck.. Anybody I have known that had this in their car always had it clogging and gunk up.. From brand new cars to completely flushed systems..this was added and the coolant system went to the crapper..
Good Ole' Prestone 50/50 is perfect..and if another car you have needs some..guess what..it works with all vehicles..
After you use this in your aluminum radiator..add some Royal Purple Purple Ice or Redline Water Wetter.. Great products and won't harm anything.. Also universal for all cars..
P.S. I am using Prestones full line of Flush..Fill..Protect products..

I've tried all sorts of things including royal purple, water wetter, prestone, etc. Prestone isnt too popular in AZ as it breaks down and turns white in the high heats. Dex-cool is yucky, though. (Hard to wash off!) But, it does work.

I use the organic coolant in everything I have that is all aluminum including my air tow ater intercooler system. Never had a prob. with it. It's not dex cool brand, simply OAT coolant. Works fine, never a problem.
I think the dex cool turning to mud problem stems from being aerated, low fluid levels, leaks.

That looks good! I have a question... Was your car originally a TPI car? I notice that you have what looks like a plastic cover around your hood latch. I have a TPI car that I just pulled the motor out of and I'm looking to cover where the snorkels ran.

Those covers were on all non TPI cars (they never sued the Y shaped air filter housing) so it won't be hard to find one.
