Heater hose question

Im replacing the heater core on my 89 rs. I just did this on my 87 but the hoses ran a different route. Does anyone know what the driver side hose runs to? It goes down the firewall behind the engine. Its a 90degree bent almost and runs about 6 inches till it connects to a metal hose maybe? Im wondering since i cant get it off, if I just cut it will it be a bigger pain to get a new one on? It seems like there is no room to get down there unless maybe I jack the car and try from the bottom.

Re: Heater hose question

That metal tube, pass side right? It's just a tube - you can cut the hose off and just use a longer hose if you like - there's nothing special about it - just GM's attempt to hide one hose out of the way.

Re: Heater hose question

no, it's behind the engine on the pass. side. Rubber hose from heater core and runs down to something that I cant see. Feels like a metal hose but Im assuming if I cut it off I will never get a new one on because I can barely get my small girly hands back down there. Im thinking I should just keep struggling like hell to rip it off the heater core till it breaks and I get pissed and then have to replace the entire hose anyway. haha

Re: Heater hose question

That hose does attach to an aluminum pipe. It runs along the the body rail forward to either the engine oil cooler (if equipped) or just into the rad. Your best bet is to slice the hose longways, then it will just fall off of the fitting, then replace it with a new rubber hose.
