coolant temp gauge problem

I need a little with my 92 z28, my gauge is being a pita,I picked up a new sensor and nothing still. the needle on the gauge moves when I turn the key into the acc position, and it pegs when I ground the lead
I'm sure it's something stupid i just need some insight.

I always thought the sender/sensor is the same thing. too be more specific, I replaced the coolant temp sender that threads into the driver side head

Re: coolant temp gauge problem

behind the ac compressor? and these cars have 3 sensors or atleast my car does. i have 2 on the intake and 1 on the head, the one of the head is for the gauge, the two on the intake are for the ECM
