Water boiling in overflow tank

So since i have had the camaro (about 3 or 4 months) after i am done driving i can hear the water boiling in the overflow tank. My first thought was that the previous owner just had water with no coolant in it. So i put coolant in it and it still did it. About a week ago i noticed that there was a significant amount of coolant going into the tank but nothing going back into the radiator. A couple days ago i noticed that the gaskets on the radiator cap were no good. I plan on buying a new cap today but my question is could the bad cap cause those problems? or could it be something else...there are no puddles after its been parked...the tail pipes are not wet...and the only place you can see coolant under the hood is from the cap. Thanks guys
