What can I do to help my car run cooler?

My car runs very hot. Even at calm highway speeds it will heat up.
It actually idles cooler than when it runs for some reason.

What aftermarket radiator should I upgrade to?
Do you guys use Dexcool for coolant?

Do you still have the Air Dam under the car? Any mods to the car? Stock engine?

Had to replace radiator recently as it cracked open while on the road. On pulling the old rad found what looked like the underhood insulation had caked up on the front of the rad b/w the condenser and the rad. At least half the fins blocked of airflow. Maybe you see if the front of yours is obstructed.

If I had a lambo , I'd dump the TA. HA HA!
The inside of the rad might be restricted too, water pump impellar might be corroded (rare). T-stat might be stuck open only alittle.
I'd start by removing the radiator, flush it inside & out. Flush the block through the heater hoses. Pop a new t-stat in it. Add a new rad cap too.

most common causes of over heating are: the airflow restricted in front of the radiator by leaves and junk , missing air dam, or non working fans.

Some not so common causes are lower rad hose collapsing, air trapped in system, or a bad pump

Re: What can I do to help my car run cooler?

the thermostat is in under the water neck that attaches to the upper rad hose coming out of the block. 99% sure the missing air dam is the cause of your highway overheating. you can probably find one in a jy. there are companies that make new repops, but i havent used one so i dont know the costs, or fitment with them. and no clue if it will work with an aftermarket nose.

ebay / buy and sale section hawks might have one. Glad I could help. Most people who overheat while moving seem to be missing it.

having your car run too cool can also be a bad thing. 158 is too cool.

Re: What can I do to help my car run cooler?

Having the knight rider nose on tends to let more air pass through into the engine bay too with the fog light openings, the air dam on my car was a big piece attached to a smaller piece, so i took the big piece off as it looked terrible with the knight rider nose on, but the car runs cool as anything when driving around, it heats up quickly when in traffic though but i think thats just how they are.

ive got both my fans on switches now too so i usually turn them on if it starts creeping towards the 200 mark, i hate letting the car get to the halfway mark on the gauge as thats its boiling point as i found out once

get/ make sure you have an air dam

flush your coolant system

if you dont have them, get some electric fans.
