so my fan wont turn on wen the car gets hot. it does turn on if i switch my ac on (so i know the fan motor works). i have changed both the sensor that is next to the thermostat housing and the sensor on the passenger side of the engine. this is a tbi ecm which i read that the ecm doesn't control the fan.

i removed my AC with the delete pully and put a NON-ac heater box if that helps.

check the wire to the fan switch on the pass side head. take it off and ground that wire with the key on, if the fan turns on the switch is bad. if it doesnt then theres a problem with that wire leading to the relay. it was originaly a 305 tbi with single fan right?

 

yes it was a single fan 305 tbi. i grounded the wire and the fan turned right on i guess new parts can be defective sometimes. well at least this will give me an excuse to drain my coolant and replace my leaking heater core! thanks again travis401!

 

not terribly common, but it does happen. id suggest spending a little more money and getting a fan switch to turn the fan on at a lower temp. stock one trips the fan at 230*ish. if you do a search for fan switch youll find a bunch of part numbers for various different fan temps.

 

the hayden (4037 I believe) works great and can be bought for $25 on Amazon

 

I went through this too. I had my fan wired open for awhile to get by. Car was always cool.
