temperature question
i have 2 temp gauges installed right now(just put in a new one) i have the old one hooked into the lower area of the motor(by the plugs) and my new one is up top by the thermostat. i noticed that my top gauge reads about 20 degrees or so hotter than the older gauge down low. is this a normal thing to have happen?thanks

Re: temperature question
Sounds about right. As your first gauge reads before it has gone through the motor, and the second as it comes out and into the radiator. So what you're seeing is the temperature increase from the coolant entering and passing through the motor and then exiting to the radiator to be cooled.

Re: temperature question
thanks..i got spooked a bit by this temp difference. when the bottom gauge read around 220 and my new(top) one was reading between 230 and 240. does it sound like i still might have some cooling issues to anyone?

Re: temperature question
It seems a bit high for your area but, these cars were meant to run all day around the 200-220 mark. I'd look into doing some of these. Full coolant flush and replace, I use Prestone 50/50, but if you want more cooling do 60water/40coolant or 70/30. I also use Purple Ice additive which also helped about 10*. If the fans still work as they should and your temps are still rising above 220 all day even after a flush, look into a 180* thermostat. Simple and easy mod, and will do wonders for cooling. The stock stat' is 195*. Keep us posted.

Re: temperature question
okay..i will try the flush the additive and coolant replacement. i just installed a 160 degree thermostat the other day. so hopefully that wont cause any probs. i have my fan hardwired with my ignition switch. the guy that was helping me out.dumped straight antifreeze(peak full strenth..2 full jugs) into my radiator,,when i asked him about diluting it,,he said it would be alright..lol. so maybe that is one problem.i gotta get it out for a nice long test drive soon. after i do your suggestions. ill keep posting on this.thanks
