Bad a/c clutch?
Solved. Problem was bad clutch diode, the diode being located in the connecting wires to the clutch, under the electrical tape. Replaced with IN4001 silicon rectifier diode, now works.
I had this problem where whenever I turned the ac on, it blew the fuse. So after a little bit of reading I saw a post saying to pull the connector from the ac clutch and try again, stating that if the fuse didn't blow it's likely to be the ac clutch.
I pulled the connector, and the fuse indeed does not blow.
The heater seems to work still, so I don't need to take any immediate action on fixing the problem. But I want to be sure I know what the problem is before I dig in and start replacing parts.
Would I be correct in assuming that I just need to get a replacement ac clutch? Or will I need to replace the whole compressor unit? Any advise on further troubleshooting?

Clutch & Such
You’ll only have to replace the clutch.

It might be only the clutch DIODE, located under electrical tape near the comp.
Disconnect one end of the diode, apply power thru a 25 amp fuse to the clutch, and if the clutch engages without the fuse blowing, you merely have to replace the diode.
You don’t need the engine running to perform this test.

Re: Bad a/c clutch?
Never mind I think I found it. It's the one wrapped in the electrical tape on the connector to the AC clutch correct?
Now to get some alligator clips to connect it the wires to apply power through a fuse...

Re: Bad a/c clutch?
What kind of diode do I need to replace it?
Replaced with in4001 silicon rectifier diode, works great.
