N00b air dam/fan questions.
N00b air dam/fan questions.
Hey all, so although not far into it, I've finally resumed work on my bird. All I've really done so far is removed a few things like the air cleaner and fan assemblies, as I'm getting ready to remove my A/C stuff, do a full compression test on the 305 (to find out if it's truly on it's way out or not, though I suspect it is), and also, to install an air-dam, as it appears my car doesn't even have one on it, shown in the pic below.

Obviously, I should install an air dam ASAP, and am probably just gonna snag a new one online, since they're cheap, and often times, I find them to be missing on many scrapyard cars too. My only question is, since I wouldn't know due to not having one, it it supposed to mount in the location shown in the pic? Right below the front of the core support?
I also have fan/airflow questions in regards to cooling as well. Since I'm removing the A/C system, and thus, the condenser in front of the radiator, will this significantly improve airflow going to the front of the radiator to help keep it cool? Also, how effective is the stock single fan used with the 305 TBI? Is it powerful enough to keep a 300 HP-ish SBC cool? (Planning to do a swap/mods)

Yes, it will improve airflow, I'm not sure about greatly, unless your condenser is a total mess. you'll want something to seal the side gaps between the radiator and support (sheet metal)to from taking out the condenser, to help assure air is going through the radiator and not around it.
And the stock cooling system should easily be up to the task of a 300hp motor, the stock 350 was 245. +55hp isn't to extreme.
