how do I choose a water pump?
There are so many, some are really cheap and some quite expensive. I'd like a long, aluminium, high flow type to go on a Dart 400 SHP block. Normally my approach, as most marketing people know, is to go for something in the middle of the price range. They seem to vary from $70 odd to $300.

Honestly I was in the same exact boat as you were about 6 months ago I couldn't decide..In the end I went with a stage 1 Stewart water pump......stage 1's are cast iron and stage 2s are aluminum but the stage 1s ran me only about $100 shipped to my door and stewart makes some quality stuff water pump...Ever since I swapped my out my car has not overheated not once....I can be in dead stop traffic for an ho9ur and will not overheat. There customer service number is awesome they helped me chose the one that fit exatly into my car, it was a direct fit.
