Original CFMs of a stock dual electric fans?

Does anyone out there know the original CFMs of the stock dual electric fans on an 88 GTA? I asked a couple of GM parts departments but they could not supply an answer (?!!). I'm considering a Be Cool 2780cfm system but the tech rep at Be Cool said the setup I have is already better than anything fans they make. I find it difficult to believe that a racing upgrade supply company doesn't offer something superior in capacity. If this is true I'd like to know the facts before spending $200-$300 on something less powerful.
Its a stock GTA radiator (single aluminium core), dual electric fan set up as far as I know.

I have a much more powerful setup than stock that'll bolt in. PM me for details.

Re: Original CFMs of a stock dual electric fans?

The setups I use are 18" shrouded fans which move a lot more air and can do so at 3 speeds. Shrouds are extremely important because they act as funnels allowing the fans to operate with much more efficiency. And, be aware that fixed bladed fans are loud at higher speeds.

Stock CFM for 88 GTA fans are in the 1800-2200 range. The Motorcraft fans I use are easily twice that at full speed.

Hopefully you know when they're on....lol, my father in law has the same idea....he has a 69 Camaro SS and a 68 Z28 and he doesn't care to have a stereo because the sound of a solid lifter valvetrain is music to his ears.....and I gotta agree!

Thanks! You're the first to supply any sort of numbers including GM dealers. I've not seen an 18" setup( especially shrouded) before who makes that?

Thats some serious cooling! Fortunately I don't think I need anything super powerful because its a stock 305TPI. Still, something to consider...

Those Summit fans are rated at zero restriction in free air. I would say in a real world scenario they are most likely 2000 CFM fans each at most. The Motorcraft 18" fans are the ones I was referring to. They are single and dual speed and can be found on Crown Vics, T-birds, Mark VIII's.....etc.

Re: Original CFMs of a stock dual electric fans?

The 454 that I have liked to get hot until I got those fans and radiator I let it idle then took it for a quick drive then brought it back home let it idle again temps went to 195 when the fans kicked on it dropped 10 degrees in about 3 minutes of idleing time with fans running haven't had much more testing time than that I spun #5rod bearing. Puttin in new 454 while the old one gets rebuilt.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks I'll start checking into Ford parts as well now.

That's not to say the Summit style fans won't work for any one particular application, but imo they are far from the most robust electric fan you can use.

Re: Original CFMs of a stock dual electric fans?

Installed the fan today, I have to adjust its position but...by itself...it held its own as far as keeping the temps down.

I have 1 stock fan, and a Procharger setup (still being pieced together) so I got rid of the stock fan on that side. This fan is BIG for a 12" make sure you have it ALL the way to what side your putting it on or you'll have to "re-attend to a mess". Like I will have to tmr, and btw you don't want to see my mess...

(installer error-)

I held it in my hand and put the wires on my batt and it almost jumped out of my hand.

(I had a good grip on it too)

Next is a aluminum 3 core rad.

The Mark VIII fans I use a lot literally seem to levitate and move around the cement when I have them at full speed. They displace so much air, you damn near can't control them.....lol....
