Remove A/C from V6 Camaro
Remove A/C from V6 Camaro
My A/C is not working, actually it has not been working since I got my Camaro in 1998
but I thought now that I would like to get rid of it.
One of the pipe is going from the "little radiator" to the A/C and then another one from A/C to a "box" on the passenger side (arrow pointing in the pic).
Is it alright to just remove the pipe from the box and from the little radiator (to get rid of the A/C) or do I need to do something else ?
What is the function of the "black box" ?
Thanks for the tips !

You can disconnect and remove everything. Just tie all the cables out of the way. First thing is to drain the system of any coolant although it probably has little or none left in it. It's illegal to just vent it. You're supposed to have it recovered (a/c shop for example). That's up to you. The 'black box' on the passenger side is where chilled coolant chills the air going in to the car. It can be removed but it's a bit of a pain because some of the bolts are in the engine compartment but sum are up under the dash inside. Not difficult just takes some time. Then you're left with a couple of holes in the firewall. I covered mine with two pieces of sheet metal. It makes the rear plugs on that side MUCH easier to get at.

ok, but I was thinking to remove only the A/C pump and the pipes. Do I need to close any remaining holes in the "small radiator" and on the black box or can they be open after I remove the pipes ?

You can leave them open. I sealed mine up in case I want to re-use or sell all the parts. Prevents junk getting in.
