serpentine belt mods

does anyone know if there is anything available to put in my belt routing to take the place of a component that has been removed? something like a dummy pulley to make the belt fit right?

If you're talking about the smog pump being removed, yes there is. I would have to hunt a bit to find the number but GM offered it and it bolts right in the bracket assembly as I have one on my car but it's been awhile since I did the change. Someone on here may know it by heart but if no one chimes in, I will hunt the number down for you. If it is to replace the AC compressor than I am not sure. I think the description to find it is just "pulley", not smog "pump delete". I assume they don't call it that to be politically correct since Al Gore and all

Re: serpentine belt mods

you can just leave the smog pump out and find a shorter belt that fits- GM built a lot of cars and trucks without the smog pump or any kid of an idler pulley there ... Dorman makes an idler pulley that replaces the AC pump- you can get it at any auto parts store.

Use a string to map out routing and determine the new length of the belt.

Re: serpentine belt mods

I put on the smallest belt that would go on. where it loops around theca, then the tension pulley, it rubs from being too close. at idle it doesn't touch, only when accelerating. I used the string trick a few days ago to get the size for the smallest belt. I will check parts store for a dummy pulley.

Re: serpentine belt mods

You can also search "Firebird Smog Pump Delete" on ebay and pull the delete pulley up. This is the route I went.
