just a thought any suggestions?

so as i was reading a few other posts on this forum and on camarozone i began to wonder it trully is a head gasket problem im having, because ive never actually seen my needle on the temp guage go into the red zone, but it gets to the 240ish mark im guessing, maybe i would benefit from a new larger radiator?

also i only notice the white smoke and problem cranking once in a while maybe twice a day, not every single time i crank the car. sometimes when i crank it up it blows a small puff of white smoke runs terribly and shuts off, but if i crank it up and notce in time to hit the gas it runs just fine

i do not think once in a while equals twice a day. and if its blowing puffs of white smoke out of where, the tail pipe? because if so white smoke is burning antifreeze. and that is a blown head gasket.

and 240 i would say is hot. my car has a large v8 and I never see it get above 170 even when im driving around in the 110 degree Arizona heat..

but of course more info on whats its doing and what your car is would be helpful. im just kind of filling in the blanks with what i think is right

Well from what I've read on multiple forums these vehicles with a stock 305 in normal conditions usually run about 230-235. And yes out the tail pipe, and twice a day for me is once in a while considering I crank my car up about 15 times a day. Just thought I'd see what other people might have thought before I pull my heads and intake off and send them to the shop.

Also it only gets above 200 if I put my foot into a little, if I baby it the whole time I don't have any problems. But I don't see any point in having a v8 powered muscle car if you're not going to romp on it once or twice

best thing I've ever read on this forum

but anyway im guessing it would be a safe bet to assume that the 2 times it does it are when its sat the longest, like over night and after work? and (according to my dad/uncle/me) that normal of 230 is hot. but if you want a surefire way to tell if its a head gasket problem check the fluid in your radiator, if its constantly low you'll have your answer. (or you could have a coolant leak but that wouldnt explain the smoke)

Yea. I reckon I'm gonna skip my sleep today and start taking it all apart, that's the only way I'll know for sure. Tomorrow night is gonna be a long one but I could always nap on my lunch break.
