Can I simply remove the air compressor from my Camaro?

I hope this falls under the correct category. I'm about to replace my water pump and power steering pump. The air compressor accessory is making it really hard to work in that area, and it clutters the engine bay so I was thinking about removing it permanently.

I have a LG4 305 V8 with V-Belt setup. I know that if I had a serpentine belt setup I would have to get a delete pulley, but is that the case with the V-Belt pulley setup as well? Or can I just take the air compressor out along with whatever is attached to it and leave it at that?

Also if I remove the air compressor, do I need to plug anything?

Thanks.

Yeah you can, at least, from my experience you can. Just plug/cap any lines that you can't remove and use Great Stuff or some other type of foam to plug up the gap that you'll have coming out of your heater box, basically make your own "a/c delete box," or just buy one. They are pretty easy to find online.

This is similar to the one that I have, it really clears up the engine bay:

There's an a/c delete forum somewhere on here that has pics of this kind of stuff.

I've managed to remove the air compressor and the Freon canister so far. Just have to remove the hoses and whatever that air conditioning component in front of the radiator is.

The picture in the link you posted looked like the blower motor and whatever that silver Freon canister was attached to had been removed as well. Removing the blower motor will cut out the heater won't it? And what is under the plastic cover to the right of the blower motor? (sorry, I'm new to fixing and understanding cars)

The blower motor stays, if you buy that piece you would install the blower motor into it. I'm not sure what is under that to be honest, can't remember myself.

The part the lines hook to in the blower motor housing is the a/c evaporator, canister in front is the accumulator, part in front of the radiator in the condenser. All can be removed. you will need an a/c delete housing for the blower for your heat to work right.

Here's a pic, the red arrow is pointing to the blower motor, correct?

And if I understood that correctly, the green arrow is pointing to the a/c evaporator?

Here's the link to the image. Don't know why it's not showing up. I can see it.

Confused me for a second being upside down, but that's the evaporator. And yes, the image shows now in the first post.

Ok thanks.

Why would the heater not work right, after removing the A/C evaporator? I thought they were completely separate.

So I'm guessing the delete housing is necessary if removing the evaporator? Or is there a cheaper method to plugging it?

You can seal the holes up any way you see fit and it would work. It just wouldn't work efficiently if there holes for the air to blow out.
